The suite asserted against whatever the developer's box happened to be
configured as. Two independent leaks, both surfaced by a real `~/.claw`:
1. `parse_args` resolves defaults — notably `permissions.defaultMode` —
through the user-scope config, which `default_config_home()` reads from
`CLAW_CONFIG_HOME` falling back to `$HOME/.claw`. Nothing overrode it, so
a `defaultMode` of `dontAsk` on the host turned 12 assertions from
`WorkspaceWrite` into `DangerFullAccess`. `env_lock()` now returns an
`EnvGuard` that points `CLAW_CONFIG_HOME` at a fresh empty directory and
restores the previous value on drop, so "no user config" is the state
under test. All 42 call sites already bind the guard, so this fixes them
at once; tests that want a populated config home can still set the var
themselves afterwards. `removed_login_and_logout_subcommands_error_helpfully`
asserted a Default-sourced permission mode without taking the guard at
all, and now does.
2. `direct_resume_safe_slash_commands_route_to_local_json_actions_831`
hardcoded `/sandbox` => "warn", which is only true where namespace
isolation is unsupported and just the filesystem sandbox is active
(#731). On a host with working user namespaces the correct answer is
"ok". That entry now accepts either; the test is about #831 routing —
local JSON action instead of `interactive_only` — not about the kernel
under the runner.
Verified with the real ~/.claw/settings.json in place (defaultMode=dontAsk):
cargo test --workspace 0 failures, clippy --workspace --all-targets
-D warnings 0 findings, scripts/fmt.sh clean.

`cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets -- -D warnings` is this repo's own
documented verification command, and it could not run to completion. Earlier
compile failures were masking a further 48 lints; with those cleared the
workspace now passes with zero findings.
Real fixes, not suppressions:
- status_json_value took 8 positional parameters, four of them a tail of
`Option<&_>` that most callers passed as None — trivially transposable.
Grouped into `StatusJsonExtras` with a Default impl; all 7 call sites now
name only the fields they actually set.
- extract_help_metadata's 8-tuple return is now a documented `HelpMetadata`
alias.
- the auto-compact loop indexed preserve_schedule by its loop counter;
it now iterates the array directly.
- a sandbox status chain had two identical arms; merged the condition.
- a filter_map whose every arm returned Some is now a map.
- 33 unused stdout/stderr bindings in the output-format contract tests are
prefixed with `_`, and 9 `map_or(false, ..)` are now `is_some_and(..)`.
NOTE: several `--bin claw` tests (parse_args defaults) read the *real*
`~/.claw/settings.json` rather than an isolated config home, so they fail on
any machine whose user config sets `permissions.defaultMode`. With that file
moved aside the binary's suite is 207/207. That isolation gap is pre-existing
and left for a separate change.
Verified: clippy workspace/all-targets/-D warnings reports 0; cargo test
--workspace passes with the user config neutralised; scripts/fmt.sh clean.

`ApiError` is the `Err` half of nearly every `Result` in the api crate, and
its `Api` variant carried ~139 bytes inline (8 fields, four of them
`Option<String>`). That tripped clippy::result_large_err on 35 signatures
and, with -D warnings, made the whole crate unbuildable under the repo's
own documented verification command.
Move the payload into `ApiErrorDetails` behind a `Box`:
- `ApiError::Api(Box<ApiErrorDetails>)`, with `ApiError::api(..)` to
construct and `api_details()` to borrow
- `ApiErrorDetails` re-exported from the crate root
- adding a field here can no longer re-inflate every signature
This also simplifies `enrich_bearer_auth_error`, which previously
destructured and rebuilt all eight fields at five separate return points
just to append a hint; it now mutates the boxed payload in place.
Also clears the remaining pre-existing lints that blocked -D warnings:
unused test bindings, a redundant `use serde_json`, and an explicit
`.into_iter()` in claw-rag-service.
Verified: cargo test --workspace passes, 0 failures.

refactor(cli): let the emitter report the output tail it leaves behind
Two places believed they owned terminal output: consume_stream streams
assistant deltas live while emit_output = true, and run_turn decided
whether to emit a separating newline before spinner.finish by guessing
from final_assistant_text(&summary).
That guess agrees with reality only because every *other* writer happens to
terminate its output with a newline — tool results go through
stream_markdown (which appends one), thinking summaries are written with a
trailing newline, and tool-call headers use writeln! — so the assistant
text path is the only one that can leave a partial line. That is a property
of the current renderers rather than of the streaming protocol, and it is
not enforced anywhere.
TerminalTail is state the emitter records into as it writes: both live
writers (AnthropicRuntimeClient::consume_stream and the tool-result blocks
in CliToolExecutor::execute) now push bytes through a TailTrackingWriter
that reports the last byte written, and the caller that ends a turn asks
where the emitter stopped instead of inferring it.
The heuristic also left the failure arm unguarded. A turn that streamed text
and then errored called spinner.fail on a partial line, which the line
clear then erased; that arm now carries the same guard.
Also gate the animated spinner.tick frame on is_terminal(). That frame is
pure cursor control (save, rewrite line, restore) and emits no newline, so
down a pipe it leaves an unterminated banner that the first streamed delta
then continues on the same physical line.

feat: add persistent auto-memory system
Implement a file-based persistent memory system that allows the AI to retain knowledge about users, feedback, projects, and references across sessions.
## Implementation Details
- MemoryStore data layer with FNV-1a workspace fingerprinting
- MemoryRead/MemoryWrite tools with security hardening (path traversal, symlink, absolute path, and size limit protections)
- System prompt injection of MEMORY.md index with prompt injection mitigation (fenced code block + trust-lowering notice)
- autoMemoryEnabled config option (defaults to true)
- Doctor health check for auto-memory state
- /memory command enhancement showing persistent memory info
## Verification
✓ 1023 lib tests pass
✓ Output format contract tests pass
✓ Release build succeeds
✓ Security hardening verified

Changed resumed_help_command_emits_structured_json to assert 'message'
field instead of 'text', matching the #338 fix for help JSON field
consistency.
Also marked ROADMAP #340 and #345 DONE with direct runtime evidence:
340: resume /session help now routes JSON to stdout (verified)
345: resume /config <section> now returns section-specific JSON (verified)

#683-#692: help topic JSON now includes usage, purpose, formats,
related, local_only, requires_credentials, and aliases extracted
from help prose. Export and doctor keep their custom structured
responses.
#466: new check_base_url_health() validates ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL,
OPENAI_BASE_URL, XAI_BASE_URL, and DASHSCOPE_BASE_URL for basic
HTTP(S) URL format. Non-http schemes and empty values produce a
warn-level diagnostic.

claw acp serve now exits 2 (not implemented) instead of 0, so automation
pipelines can detect the no-op via exit code gating.
Key changes:
- acp serve exits 2 instead of 0
- Removed discoverability_tracking, tracking, recommended_workflows from JSON
- Removed phase, exit_code, serve_alias_only fields from JSON
- Status changed from unsupported/discoverability_only to not_implemented
- Error kind for unsupported ACP invocations uses typed prefix
- Updated tests to match new exit code and JSON structure

Hook config now supports the Claude Code structured hook format with
partial validation. Invalid hook entries are recorded in invalid_hooks
while valid siblings are retained, following the same pattern as MCP
partial validation (#440).
Key changes:
- RuntimeInvalidHookConfig now includes typed kind field (invalid_hooks_config
or unknown_hook_event) for machine-readable error classification
- Hook parsing collects all invalid entries instead of halting at first error
- Unknown hook event names recorded as invalid without rejecting valid hooks
- Legacy bare-string hooks still load with deprecation warnings
- Claude Code documented format loads without error (matcher + nested hooks)
- config/status/doctor JSON surfaces hook_validation metadata
- classify_error_kind maps hook errors to invalid_hooks_config

Commands like /commit, /pr, /issue, /bughunter, /ultraplan are
interactive-only and NOT resume-safe. Previously the generic
interactive_only error always suggested 'claw --resume SESSION.jsonl
/commit', which would just re-trigger interactive_only.
Fix: check commands::resume_supported_slash_commands() in the
SlashCommand::Ok(Some(cmd)) arm. Resume-safe commands get the full
--resume suggestion; non-resume-safe commands only say 'Start claw'.
Also update two existing unit tests whose assertions checked for the old
'interactive-only' substring (now 'interactive_only:' prefix).
Two new integration tests:
- non_resume_safe_interactive_only_hint_omits_resume_suggestion
- resume_safe_interactive_only_hint_includes_resume_suggestion
572 tests pass, 1 pre-existing worker_boot failure unrelated.
/approve, /yes, /deny, /no (and /y, /n) are valid REPL-only slash
commands. Outside the REPL they were falling through to
format_unknown_direct_slash_command -> error_kind:unknown_slash_command.
Fix: intercept them in the SlashCommand::Unknown arm and emit
interactive_only: prefix so classify_error_kind returns the correct kind.
One new test: approve_deny_outside_repl_emits_interactive_only (covers
/approve, /yes, /deny, /no)
572 tests pass, 1 pre-existing worker_boot failure unrelated.
Single-word all-alpha/dash tokens that don't match any known subcommand
now always emit command_not_found (with or without fuzzy suggestions).
Multi-word cases fall through to CliAction::Prompt (natural language
prompt passthrough like 'claw explain this' must still work). The
multi-word gap is documented as ROADMAP #826 (known limitation).
Tests:
- unknown_subcommand_json_emits_command_not_found (new)
- unknown_subcommand_text_emits_command_not_found_on_stderr (new)
- unknown_subcommand_typo_with_suggestions_json_emits_command_not_found (new)
- multi_word_unknown_subcommand_falls_through_to_prompt_826 (documents gap)
572 tests pass, 1 pre-existing worker_boot failure unrelated.
When looks_like_subcommand_typo fires on a single word with no close
fuzzy matches, the fallthrough reached CliAction::Prompt → provider
startup → misleading missing_credentials error.
Fix: always return Err with command_not_found: prefix from the typo
guard (with or without suggestions). Added command_not_found classifier
arm in classify_error_kind. Unified existing unknown_subcommand kind
under command_not_found in #825.
Three new regression tests in output_format_contract.rs:
- unknown_subcommand_json_emits_command_not_found
- unknown_subcommand_text_emits_command_not_found_on_stderr
- unknown_subcommand_typo_with_suggestions_json_emits_command_not_found
Updated pre-existing unit test assertion (starts_with → contains) and
classifier unit test (unknown_subcommand → command_not_found).
572 tests pass, 1 pre-existing worker_boot failure unrelated.
* fix: route all JSON-mode abort envelopes to stdout (#819#820#823)
All handled errors in --output-format json mode now write the structured
abort envelope to stdout (rc=1) and keep stderr empty. Previously the
top-level error handler and resume_session JSON branches used eprintln!
which sent the envelope to stderr, breaking machine consumers that read
stdout for command payloads.
Surfaces fixed:
- Top-level abort handler (main.rs): export --session <missing>,
session <subcommand>, prompt (no text), unknown subcommand fallthrough,
flag errors, and all other run() failures
- resume_session JSON branches: session load errors, unsupported commands,
parse errors, command execution errors
Test changes: updated 24 failing contract tests to assert JSON envelopes
on stdout. Added stderr-clean assertions where appropriate. 70 contract
tests pass (was 68; 2 additional from regression coverage).
ROADMAP: #819 (export session-not-found), #820 (interactive_only class),
#823 (missing prompt)
* style: cargo fmt on main.rs after eprintln->println fix
* fix(tests): fmt + update compact_output test for stdout abort envelope routing
* fix(tests): update resume_slash_commands stub test for stdout envelope routing
